Does anyone else think the texting money donations for Haiti is ridiculous?

Posted on February 3rd, 2010 by admin

I was reading the USA today and Texting Money to the relief funds seems to be a popular thing, but the cell phone companies won’t release the money until the cell phone bills are paid – which means at least 30 days until the billing cycle is over, then 60 days until the payables contribute money to the funds – is there anyone regulating such "fund raising"? Is there any education to consumer to let them know, not only are they charged text messaging fees but the money may not reach the victims in a timely manner?

That’s not entirely accurate, due in large part to the pressure of public opinion. See these:

How do Haiti relief fund text donations raise money?

Posted on February 1st, 2010 by admin

A lot of charities for Haiti right now are asking you to text them, and when you do you will raise/donate 5 dollars for the cause. How do they get the money? Do they take it from your phone bill, or is it for every text a sponsor will donate five dollars?

The donation will be added to your phone bill. Right now, carriers are sending the money right away to the relief agencies, and will collect the money when you pay your bill.

What are good businesses to call in Hawaii (Oahu) for donations (e.g. gift certificates, money donation)?

Have a fundraiser coming up and need door prizes.

Companies that have a local presence in your community are your best bet. Prepare a solicitation letter detailing the purpose of the fundraiser, and why they should donate – what benefits to them or to the community they serve? Have something to offer the company – their logo on a sign or banner, the opportunity to speak at the event, etc., to make it worth their while. Tell them what you are looking for = an item, gift cards, etc., and to what purpose they will be used. Be sure to get the name of a real person to send the letter to (don’t bother with Dear Manager, call and get the name) so you can follow up with a phone call or visit.

How much money do people get for donations of bone marrow?

Posted on December 8th, 2009 by admin

What about blood?
Plasma?
Anything that can be restored.

How do they go about these procedures?
Step by step…

You wont find anyone willing to pay for marrow. It does restore itself, but it is illegal to pay for a donor for transplant, and so massivly expensive to harvest that no one using marrow for research is actually going to pay the donor.

Blood products that are paid for cannot be used in human transfusions. You can go to the plasma center and sell plasma if you are healthy enough. You can do it once or twice a week depending on where you go, but its NOT healthy to do it that much.

what form do i use to get money back for donations?

Posted on December 6th, 2009 by admin

i dont know if what im even asking makes sense or is a real question. im totally confused about this tax thing!

If you itemize, you can claim eligible charitable expenses as a tax deduction. You’d use schedule A. See the 1040 instruction booklet, appendix A, for more detailed information.

You don’t get your entire donation back, but might decrease your income tax by a percentage of the donation.

I am putting a jar in a animal hospital to raise money for a charity event, how do i ask for donations?

Posted on November 26th, 2009 by admin

I am participating in a charity event to raise money for the local humane society. I need to put a note on the jar that asks for donations

Name of the organization that is receiving the donations

What would be the legalities of setting up a "cause" website where you ask for donations of money, but…?

Posted on November 23rd, 2009 by admin

where it is never specified what the money would actually be used for? And then just pocket it?

Don’t bother. You can avoid fraud charges by ADMITTING you are begging for your own use. There are just as many fools that will donate under those circumstances as there are that would donate to an unidentified cause.
