Does anyone know of a charity in Saint Louis, Missouri, that will pick up furniture for donation?

Posted on February 3rd, 2010 by admin

I live on the second floor and cannot carry furniture out of the building for a charity to pick up. Are there any who will come into my home to get a furniture donation?
Salvation Army, Goodwill, and most others will not come into the house to get the items. They all say I have to bring them to the first floor.

Yes. The Miriam Switching Post will send a professional mover to pick up large furniture donations from any room in your home. You can call 646-7737 to arrange free pick-up. The Switching Post is a not-for-profit fundraiser for the Miriam School for children with complex learning disabilities, so your donation goes to a really good cause. The resale shop is located in Maplewood, at 2171 South Big Bend. It’s a great place to find used furniture bargains.

many owners of foreclosed homes leave some furniture. where can i buy some of that furniture.?

I’ve seen stories on TV of owners of foreclosed homes leaving sofas, dining sets, even big screen TV sets! They have no money for storage or space to store furniture with relatives , so they just leave furniture behind. The moving companies hired by the banks to clear the house of all belongings left behind just throw the belongings in the dumpster that they bring in. i was shocked! Surely some charity accepts these as a donation.

The banks are not selling furniture. A few of the clean out companies might donate, but there is the time issue. They need to clear it out fast, no time to pick though it.

There might be some legal issues, health and safety. In CA they worry a lot about dirty needles in homes.

What is the max write off allowed for charitable donations?

I have a lot of quality items (appliances , furniture, etc.) and am wondering if I should hold on to some to donate next year.

If you take the standard deduction, you get no additional benefit from charitable contributions in most cases.
You need a receipt for each donation.
Cannot get deduction for more than 40-50% of income.
Value items donated at thrift shop value, what they would sell for now at Goodwill, Salvation Army, NOT what you paid for them. Must be in GOOD condition.

Is there a charity in the Loveland/Cincinnati OH area that will come pick up donations like furniture, etc.?

I have things like dressers, exercise equipment, tables, etc. that I will donate but need them picked up. I live in Loveland, OH.

There’s almost always a Goodwill or Salvation Army in every town, look in the phone book. They will make an appointment with you to come get the stuff, and it’s tax deductible.

Hi,

I live in Toronto, Canada, and I am moving to Europe for good. I would like to donate my furniture, but do not have a vehicle to drop it off. Does anyone know what charities are willing to make a free pick-up of the furniture?
Thanks!

Goodwill will take it gladly. Here is the link that will allow you to find the donation center closest to you. http://www.goodwill.on.ca/2006_finddonate.html
If it doesn’t work, www.goodwill.on.ca will get you to the main webpage.
Best of luck on your new adventure in Europe.

I’d like them to pick up my furniture, and get a deduction for my tax purpose. Not sure if there is a maximun for deduction either.

The Salvation Army will take your things and give you a receipt for taxes. Find the closest location in Queens on the following site:

Can I use my furniture donation as a tax deduction?

Posted on November 12th, 2009 by admin

I have been trying to sell my 8-yr old used bedroom furniture and it’s not going. I am thinking of just donating it to the Salvation Army. Can this be used as a tax deduction? On their site, it says the normal value of full bedroom sets is $250-$1,000, and I am asking $600. What is the procedure? Is this worth it?

Certainly. You would go by thrift shop value. When you donate it, ask for a donation receipt with the donated value, to use for preparing your income taxes. Anything that gets the taxes down is definitely worth it!
