Posted on October 19th, 2009 by admin

Does anyone know where to drop off used clothing in Park Slope Brooklyn or vicinity? Or better yet, is there an organization that will come pick it up?

Hello,

You can usually drop clothes off at your local church. Also there are red bins throught 4th avenue where you can drop off. Where are you located in Park Slope?

Clothing donation for people who lost their belongings in a fire?

Posted on October 17th, 2009 by admin

I have a few bags of old clothes I’d like to get rid of, but I don’t want to just hand them over to a church or Goodwill or any old charity. I’d like to give them specifically to people who lost their home, clothing, and other items in a house fire. Are there any charities that focus specifically on this?

I wish I knew, Im like you. I have to get rid of tons of clothes every so often. I got 5 kids and they are growing like weeds, so therefore Im constantly getting rid of clothes. I don’t like to just hand them over to goodwill because they charge people for them. I will take my kids clothes to different schools and give them to them. They usually have children that are in need of clothes, so for now until I figure out what else to do, that’s where the clothes go. Maybe try looking on-line for charities, that might help. Best wishes

All I can find online is donation sites in the Philippines and some drop off locations in California. I’m from CT and would like either a closer drop off location or and address I could send it to. Thanks for the help!

Clothing donations best for what charities?

Posted on October 9th, 2009 by admin

I have clothes to donate – most in excellent shape. However, I am notsure what charity will benefit the most from my donation.

I know some sell donations to thrift stores
some sell in their own thirft stores – with the money being used to help out
while others allow the less fortunate to have first choice or have vouchers to shop in thier thrift stores.

I just do not know which ones do what. What would you suggest would be the best choice? I was thinking that the charity allowing the less fortuate first choice of the clothing would be best.

(last time i donated directly to a shelter and was disapponted because it was as if they could care less about my donation)

THanks for the help!

If you have some business/professional type clothing & accessories then you should look for a Dress for Success in your area. It is a great organization.

from the website: The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Used clothing donations???

Posted on October 6th, 2009 by admin

Does anyone know of places Asia, Africa or America that accepts donations of used clothing? I am willing to pay the shipping and handling…I have checked salvation army etc and I cannot find any info for these places….thanks!

Try the Christian Appalachian Project in Kentucky. They distribute the clothing to area residents in need. They’re also rated on Charity Navigator.
