What’s your opinion about places like GoodWill and other thrift strores?

Posted on December 18th, 2009 by admin

I donate a small amount of clothes to Goodwill almost every year and a friend bought it to my attention that she didn’t believe it was a good idea because the Goodwill sells the clothes instead of giving them away.

My argument was that they also give you a receipt for tax purposes if you itemize your deductions every year.

But for some reason, I always thought they gave out charity donations to the homeless every year, am I right?

Goodwill is not really a charity that focuses on the homeless specifically. They’re more geared toward helping disadvantaged people find jobs. The money from donated materials typically goes toward job training and placement. I like what they do because it’s providing people with skills and jobs, so they can maybe one day be able to pay it forward. As far as taxes, all charities will give you a receipt for deduction itemization, so if you want to donate specifically to an organization that’s geared toward the homeless, you should.

is it illegal to sing online and ask people for donations for a charity?

Posted on December 18th, 2009 by admin

i want to be a singer and i want to start out online to see what people think. while i’m singing, though, i also want to help out some causes so i was thinking about asking if people would give me money for donations like JDRF, ADA, etc. is that illegal? if you dont understand what i mean, e-mail me and i’ll try to explain.

First contact your nonprofit. Ask them if they will sponsor your fund raiser. If they agree, then there isn’t anything illegal. They will have the ‘donate’ button on their website and you will only have to sing.

Can a veichle with a lien on it be given as a donation to a family member?

Posted on December 13th, 2009 by admin

Can a family member transfer a auto loan over to anthoer family member with out the other person having to go take out a loan. I have bad credit and cant get a auto loan. my aunt bought me a vechicle but she had to fiance and put everything in her name.. how do i get everything into my name are at least get my name on the title are registration. I live in louisiana so I’m not sure if there can be two names on the title.. can anyone please give me some insight as to how i can fix this…The auto was just bought, and the loan is under her name. if she donates it to me then am i responseable for the loan as well?
because i cant get a lona due to my credit

Florence is half right, your aunt is on the hook for the payments. But, with regards to tickets, its either who is driving at the time (say you get pulled over) or whose name is on the registration (speeding ticket with camera). The car doesn’t have to registered to the person on the financing, I know thats how I get ford A plan. My dad’s "buys" it, but I make the payments to ford and they come in my name, but he is on the registration.

Appalachian clothing donations?

Posted on December 13th, 2009 by admin

I have some gently used clothing I am getting rid of and instead of donating to a local charity I would like to donate to an organization that will distribute them in Appalachian America. I am looking for an organization where I can send these items, I am willing to pay shipping. A website would be appreciated.

Did you watch that Tv show a few months back, the one that shows how addicted the inhabitants are to Mt Dew?? Anyhow, try this link, I googled donate to appalachian charity to find this.
To keep costs down, check on the shipping at USPS shipping calculator.
Your a very kind person.

Car donation HELP?

Posted on December 11th, 2009 by admin

I live in the charlotte, North Carolina area and my JROTC program is rasing money for the March of Dimes. 2 of my friends and I came up with the idea to get a car and put it in the Quad then allow students to pay $1.00 to smash the car with a sledge hammer ($1.00 a hit) Our athletic department did it a few years back with one of the parents donating the car.

We have a trailor and a trurck to tow the car after (or before if necassary), idea apporved by our priniciple and JROTC leader, a auto-mechanic class that will prep the car, and all we are missing is A CAR!

Where can i go to see about getting an old peice of junk??

maybe someone on craigslist.com is giving one away in your area. It is worth a look, anyways.

You also might want to take a drive to the country and look around. Rednecks always have cars up on blocks in their front yard and a nice one might be willing to donate one if you can take it off of their hands.

How can I donate clothing, toys, books, household goods, a vehicle or other items? Will BBBS pick up donations

I’m suspicious — is the person who is posting all of these BBBS questions the same person who is answering them?

How much money do people get for donations of bone marrow?

Posted on December 8th, 2009 by admin

What about blood?
Plasma?
Anything that can be restored.

How do they go about these procedures?
Step by step…

You wont find anyone willing to pay for marrow. It does restore itself, but it is illegal to pay for a donor for transplant, and so massivly expensive to harvest that no one using marrow for research is actually going to pay the donor.

Blood products that are paid for cannot be used in human transfusions. You can go to the plasma center and sell plasma if you are healthy enough. You can do it once or twice a week depending on where you go, but its NOT healthy to do it that much.

Start an official Car/Motorcycle club for charity?

Posted on December 6th, 2009 by admin

Some friends and I have had a crew / car club for years. However it was mostly just hanging out and chilling. now that we are older and some members have or are planning to get motorcycles. we are moving more towards an official auto club. We have desire to return something to our community by starting charity events and the such. We have support but we’re trying to get away from the street crew image and a real club. we have our logo and some local merchants on board to help us (making the patches and such). we are NOT a 1% oriented club and truly wish to benefit the community. However, we haven’t looked into it yet, but we see it hard to do charity events (collecting donations and such) without going through some channels to take care of taxes and such. Also to be official so someone feels better about donating to a real club insted of just a bunch bikers or people in tricked out cars. any ideas to pursue this path are appreciated thank you.
PS- I don’t have internet right now, so it may take a day or so to respond to any feedback. thank you.
Yea, thanx alot Halfass, you were REAL helpful, being a "real" biker. We are not trying to be a biker club per se, but have support of both family riding clubs and the dominant 1% in the area. get your head outta your ass and don’t reply if your not going to help. thanks again to everyone else who answered. but like I just said the community is reaching out to us right now. hopefully we will get established soon.
BTW I didnt mean bikers wernt real clubs, I only ment that from a civilians pov. an established club is prob easier to believe would take the money you give and put to a good cause rather than a bunch of guys on harleys or tricked out cars claiming to be a club

You and your friends hearts are in the right place, but starting a club for charity benefits is not an easy thing to do, alot of legal steps and paperwork. There are many organizations out there ready for someone to help with theirs. When you and your buddies are ready to get out and do good deeds check into places like the local VFW, American Legion, Blue Star Mothers, Warriors Watch, and the one I belong to, the Patriot Guard Riders. The Warriors Watch is young, maybe 50,000 nation wide.
The Patriot Guard is over 185,000 strong to date nation wide. If you are interested in doing things that make a difference give these folks a look see. You can go to www.warriorswatch.org.
.www.patriotguard.org. Then go to YOUTUBE.COM and type in the names and watch videos of them both. By the way, both the Warriors Watch and Patriot Guard have no requirements that you ride a bike, we accept cages as well.
47 years of riding
By the way, we are not a club, no dues, and we are not a gang, just have strong beliefs in doing what is right. We are an organization, period.

what form do i use to get money back for donations?

Posted on December 6th, 2009 by admin

i dont know if what im even asking makes sense or is a real question. im totally confused about this tax thing!

If you itemize, you can claim eligible charitable expenses as a tax deduction. You’d use schedule A. See the 1040 instruction booklet, appendix A, for more detailed information.

You don’t get your entire donation back, but might decrease your income tax by a percentage of the donation.
