trying to spread the word……………….?

Posted on September 30th, 2009 by admin

As many of you know I volunteer at ARNO (animal rescue new orleans) and WE REEALLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYY NNNEEEEEEEDDDD YOUR HELPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and if you have a pet of your own I don’t see how you could ignore this bullitin….you don’t even have to donate of volunteer at the shelter…you could just repost it and try to get the word to the people who do want to help…

here’s the deal:

Kitten season is upon us and in full swing.

We need KMR (Kitten Formula) desperately! I opened a new container of KMR (12oz size) yesterday evening…and it’s gone already! And that’s just the babies that I’m feeding! We’ve got more babies at Laura’s, Dawn’s and Tom’s and Vivian’s, and more tinies coming in!
We have several nursing moms at the shelter, and we plug new babies on the mommas whenever possible. But some babies are too sick, too unhealthy to be able to be plugged on…
The numbers are astonishing. ..Mrs.Laura brought 25 home with her last night, Tom has at least 5 (sick and ringwormy babies), Dawn has 8, Vivian has 4…and that doesn’t count what might come in today, nor does it count the babies that are on mommas that we still go through and supplement to make sure they are getting enough.

So, thinking outside the box (which probably isn’t outside the box at all), ARNO needs your support to make things happen, and continue to improve things for our animals and our volunteers. Think public support. Tell everyone you know about ARNO. Tell them that we need their help. Make a bulletin or blog on your MySpace or Facebook or where ever you socialize online. Tell people you meet about ARNO, get them interested (message me if you are gonna help and need/want some info ) .. .make them want to help the animals in any way they can.

ARNO needs funds to help us continue with our TNR (trap-neuter-realse) program. We will never be able to get a grip on all these babies if we can’t or don’t TNR.

We also need donations of KMR (kitten formula) , baby bottles (kitten), extra nipples for the bottles, cotton balls and sterile gauze pads, thermometer tip covers, lubricant, eye wash, heating pads (not auto shut-off),and/or baby blankies…

we need medicines and pharmaceuticals that we go through like water. Heartgard, Advantage, Revolution, K9Advantix, Capstar, large bottles of Pen-G, Albon, Strongid, DroncitPlus, Rimadyl, Prednisone, MarquisPaste, slides and cover slips, etc. Ask your vet if he has medicines that people have turned in when their pet passes, or meds that are near expiration that he does not want to keep or he cannot get credit for (most pharmaceuticals if kept correctly last one year past their expiration date), we always use bags of fluids: LRS (lactated ringers), etc. All these things will help us save money. We go through thousands of latex gloves each month to protect volunteers and not spread contagions as you have to change between each cage. Trifectant powder by the 10 lb. tubs are used monthly. We can also use kennels… when we fly out animals we need kennels for one way trips, as they don’t come back to us.

Also we need replacement trays for

if you have any of these items or if you could donate some money OR if you have things that you may think will help then don’t hesitate to bring it by…

thanks for reading and maybe helping….
p.s. I also would welcome any ‘out the box’ ideas from anyone… you never know where something could lead.

and if you wanna help here are some ideas that really won’t hurt you or your pocket at all
How about a garage sale that the proceeds benefit ARNO?
I cann even send you bookmarks to handout to identify the beneficiary which will send more traffic to our website and maybe more donations?
Any of you sell items on e-Bay or through a website or a retail store? Put a sticker that $1 will go to ARNO (please) from the purchase and our website address..

PLEASE HELP THE ANIMALS

ohh and if you can’t donate then PLEASE consider volunteering…even just one hour would help us TRUMENDOUSLY

and don’t forget to message me if you want info

although I support your attempts.. it is actually against Yahoo Answers to ask for stuff like you are doing here.

How can I raise money or get donations for a Mission Trip?

Posted on September 30th, 2009 by admin

I am a 17, and am completely lost! I need to raise $3,000 by April. I was hoping someone wound be able to share any successful fundraisers or other ideas. I AM OPEN TO ANYTHING!!
I live with my dad, and the church I go to is at my Mom’s house. It is about 3 hours away, and I only go there every other weekend. My dad is not religious. I was wondering if there was any way I could have my community help me out.

Oh, I’ve just the thing. My friend, a missionary kid went to Honduras. (BTW they started out great, but are now down to 23 dollars for the whole november) but they went to churches and if you speak with a pastor, they have people who give LOTS of donations. My friend gets like 5000 a month. That was for just the sake of giving. For a funraiser, they sell candles and bottles of vinillia from honduras. good luck, God bless.

What happens when charities turn into charities because of dwindling donations?

Do you know of donation center for unused prescription drugs in NY?

Posted on September 30th, 2009 by admin

Are there other places outside Ny that can legally accept prescription drugs for diabetis and cancer.

I am not sure that any state will allow you to give prescribed unused drugs away.
I would call both the Diabetes and Cancer foundations and ask them.
Otherwise I would keep them and give them to my friends, family, or aquaintences who use the same ones you have.
Everyone in the entire world has or has known someone who has been inflicted with these diseases.. .Sad isn’t it..
Good for you! Its nice to know that someone cares enough to want to help out another person who may not have the money or the health insurrance to pay for the meds.

If I file my taxes online, is there a maximum I can claim for charitble donations?

Posted on September 30th, 2009 by admin

I might use Turbotax online to do my taxes- How do I list charitable donations? Last year I cleaned out my attack and must have given at least 3 carloads of clothes old furnature, and junk to Goodwill and Salvation army shops- Is there a maximum I can claim? As Ill be filing online, how do i prove what i donated and when?

Maximum is half your income, so unless it’s really low, not much likelihood of hitting that.

You sound a little vague though on just what you donated. You can’t take a deduction unless you have an itemized receipt from them. Also, household goods, including clothing, must be in at least good used condition to deduct them. Your deduction is their thrift shop value, not their original cost.

You prove what you donated by showing the IRS your receipts if and when they ask for them.

Where can i donate furniture in/around Pasadena, Ca?

Posted on September 30th, 2009 by admin

It doesnt have to be picked up but if they did pick up that would help.

I dont think goodwill takes furniture and amvets dont and i have lots of furniture i need to get rid of.

Where or what companies will take my donations?

Goodwill does take furniture. They take about anything. If you do not want Goodwill, look for a thrift store, they take about anything too!

Do you know of a charity where your donations go DIRECTLY to families in Africa or the Middle East?

Posted on September 30th, 2009 by admin

I’d like to start donating money to a charity that focuses on Africa or the Middle East but want to make sure that the money I donate is accounted for and goes directly to the family. My friend in Denmark contributes to a charity where the sponsor child and family writes to tell you what the money was spent on. Does something like this exist in the US, and is it credible? Thanks

Maybe you could ask your friend in Denmark what the name of the organization he is with is and see if you can find an American equivalent.
SOS children’s villages generally have a good reputation, you can find more information about it on these websites:
http://www.soschildren.org/
http://www.sos-childrensvillages.org/
The next link is for one of the most well-known organizations that will allow you to sponsor a child and also write / receive letters.
http://www.planusa.org/
I tried googling on this, and one of the websites that came up was this:

Good luck with your worthy endeavor.

How can I help other kids beside donations?

Posted on September 30th, 2009 by admin

I really want to help orphen and abused kids. I am not financialy strong so I can’t give donations. I have two kids of my own. I am looking for a place where I can spend time with those kids who need love and affection. Can you people please tell me where to look and how to find a place like this. I am living in a very small town which is very close to Sacramento, California.

check out CASA they use volunteers to have with abused kids.

CASA is the only volunteer organization that empowers everyday citizens as appointed members of the court. In an overburdened social welfare system, abused and neglected children often slip through the cracks among hundreds of current cases. CASA volunteers change that. Appointed by judges, CASA volunteers typically handle just one case at a time—and commit to staying on that case until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. While others may come and go, CASA volunteers provide that one constant that children need in order to thrive.

Are you ready to stand up for a child who needs you? Inquire today about the power you have to change a child’s life. Click on "Enter Zip" in the "Act Locally" Box above, enter your zip code and click on the "Search" button.

How can a company participate in clothing donation?

Posted on September 30th, 2009 by admin

I have a company and looking to participate in clothing donation. Obviously I want to donate clothing that will be given away for free and not sold in the second hand store. Can anyone please direct me to website, charity organization, etc.

Thank you

Ask Salvation Army for a list of local charities & organizations that actually distribute CLOTHING rather than operate a second hand store.
Goodwill has a store, but does clothe the poor too, just not sure how they decide that. Lots of churches collect for their missionary work or they run an orphanage that could use the clothes.

Very admirable thing to do btw. Thanks for your efforts.

How much percent do charities take out of donations for overheads?

Posted on September 28th, 2009 by admin

The word "charities" does not cover everything. The actual Charity i.e. Oxfam or whatever, can deduct all legal expenses. These include Directors salaries, managers salaries, travelling expenses, advertising etc. It is in fact a "Business" and run as such with the added advantage over other businesses that the "charity shops" are exempt from council tax. So a high of around 14p in the pound would get through here. Fair to say that expenses are monitered closely by the Charities Commission.
There are also "fundraisers". These are people and organisations, again run as a business who raise funds for the charaties. A lot, but not all ,of these will be found shaking boxes in the street, or selling you little charity booklets. These are NOT contralled by the Charaties Commission. The tin shaker takes about 30% the upline managers take even more. Eventually about 5p in the £ goes to the charity—and that is subject of them taking there bit. So through fundraisers I guess about 1p in the £ gets to dig the well or whatever.
Far better you see some local charitable cause and make an annonymous donation to them. They used to call it Tythe. ie a tenth of what you earn.
